Most riders think battery care is something you deal with twice a year, before winter and after it. In reality, the small habits between rides, the ones nobody thinks about, do far more to shorten or extend battery life than any seasonal ritual. If you want your board pulling the same torque in two years that it does today, the daily routine matters more than the occasional deep clean.
What actually happens inside the battery when it sits idle
Lithium cells are not designed to sit at extremes. A battery held at full charge for weeks experiences more internal stress than one sitting at a moderate charge. The same is true at the other end. Only use the official charger supplied with your board. Third-party chargers that do not match the battery management system can charge unevenly or push the pack outside its safe range, and that is not something covered under warranty.

If you are riding a few times a week, you do not need to overthink this. Charge after a ride, disconnect once it hits full, and get back on the board within a few days. That rhythm keeps the pack in a healthy range without any extra effort.
It is the longer gaps that catch people out. Heading away for a few weeks, putting the board into storage over a wet Wellington winter, or simply losing the routine for a month because life gets busy. In those cases, charge to roughly half, store it somewhere dry and temperature stable, and check in once a month.
