DIABLO CARBON FAQs

1. How is it different from the Diablo Bamboo?
The Carbon has a forged carbon fibre deck, which makes it completely rigid. No flex. That means sharper, more direct response and better stability at speed. It's also about 1 kg lighter. Same battery, motors, and top speed as the Bamboo.
2. How far can it go?
Up to 80 km on street, up to 50 km on all-terrain. Same specs as the Diablo Bamboo.
3. How fast is it?
50 km/h. The fastest board in the Evolve range alongside the Diablo Bamboo and Renegade Diablo.
4. Is the rigid deck better or worse?
Depends on what you want. Rigid means more precise response and better control at high speed or on rough terrain. It also means less vibration absorption compared to bamboo. If you're carving for the surf feel, Bamboo. If you want technical precision and raw performance, Carbon.
5. Is it worth the extra cost over the Bamboo?
The Carbon is roughly $300 more. You get the lighter weight, the carbon deck aesthetic, and the integrated under-body LED and smart brake lights. If those things matter to you, yes. If you just want a powerful board, the Bamboo gives you the same performance for less.
6. Can it handle hills?
Yes. Same 45%+ gradient rating as the rest of the Diablo range. Dual 6374 motors, 7000W total.
7. Which version should I get, Street, All Terrain, or 2-in-1?
Street if you're on smooth pavement. All Terrain for mixed surfaces, grass, gravel, dirt. 2-in-1 if you want the flexibility to swap. The 2-in-1 is the most versatile option and worth the upgrade if you're undecided.
8. How long does it charge?
4 hours with the included 5A fast charger.
9. Is it a good board for beginners?
It can be, but it's a lot of board. 50 km/h is fast, and the rigid deck is less forgiving than bamboo. New riders can start in ECO mode, but someone completely new to eboards would probably be better starting on a GTR or Stoke X first.
10. Can I ride it in the rain?
No. Not waterproof. Newer Evolve boards like the Carbon have better sealing than older models, but water damage isn't covered under warranty. Keep it dry.

Way scarier than the original but worth it

Have had a carbon gtr for quite a few years now finally upgraded to the Diablo carbon. First ride out on the new board i pinned the throttle got to about 25 mph caught a death wobble and took a header on the asphalt in front of the mayor, worth it. Tightend the trucks since then lol.

Perfect Upgrade

Daughter and I rode GTRs a few years back. Stopped riding for a while and just recently bought the Diablo. What an upgrade. The biggest thing I love is the range on the AT wheels. Get the the best of roads and gravel with no compromise on range. My feet give out before the board!

I have been riding GTR Series 2 for two years now. And have never had any problems with the board. The fit and finish and quality is top notch. I’m completely blown away with the quality and fit and finish of the Diablo I just got a week ago. It is way better in every way ride feeling, power and looks. Completely worth the money, I still like my GTR But I’m totally in love with Diablo

This board is an 11.

It’s hard to rate something that is so insanely good, that it’s off the scale of excellence. My board looks so scorching hot, that my eyes are burning, and it goes so lightning fast, that I got there before I’d even set off! The Diablo is beyond incredible, way above top-shelf, this board is so amazing, that it defies all previously known & understood levels of greatness. At last, a real reason to not even consider a Ferrari, a Lamborghini or a Bentley. The problem now though is, how can they Evolve from the Diablo….

The board is fantastic, but the remote software is a generation behind

I’ve been a long time rider with 10,000km on my nearly 3 year old Hadean Carbon so I think what I have to say is valid. I run 7” tyres, 66T gears.

I rode in Corsa mode at all times with the Hadean, but on the Diablo I’ve found a custom profile suits me better - details are in the photos and I’ll go into more detail below

We'll start with the good things, followed by the not so good things

Acceleration

After the Hadean I wasn’t sure if I really needed much more power, but safe to say I’m a convert. On the Evolve app I have acceleration set to one bar below max, and power to 4 bars below max. Hopefully this will slightly reduce wear and load on components, but even at this level the remote vibrates frequently to indicate overcurrent protection will kick in soon

Speed

The fastest speed I’ve sustained is 53km/h, the Hadean would top out at 45km/h. Plenty fast enough

Braking

Braking is the main reason I run a custom profile because it’s dangerously good, one might say. I run just 3 bars of brake power on the Diablo because it’s capable of locking the tyres on asphalt at above 30km/h if it’s set any higher. This setting still gives me what I feel is slightly more brake power than the Hadean, but reduces the brake locking red zone to around 10km/h or below. Even the braking on Sport mode is too strong for me and results in lockups. This will cause big issues for riders in emergencies. Maybe there’s some tuning Evolve can do to the profiles to adjust braking intensity because I don’t think it’s quite right at the moment. For street wheels it will be a nightmare

Range

There is a jump in range, but it’s perhaps not as significant as it was sold as. This battery seems to be more heavily impacted by temperature than any previous series since the GT. My 11km flat terrain commute to work on a cool 10° morning after the board has been in the garage overnight will leave me with 60-65% remaining - very similar to the Hadean - but the trip home after the board has been in a warm room and recharged will leave me with 70% remaining. The Hadean’s return trip would be within 3-4% of the morning trip regardless of temperature. I ride about as fast as I can go, but if I was to ride more conservatively and limit my top speed to the Hadean's max, a 40km range should be possible

Ride

The Diablo’s ride is familiar, but it is its own thing. The 20mm wider reengineered trucks have a bigger effect than I expected. The Diablo feels much squarer to ride. The Hadean always felt quite pointed, whereas the Diablo feels wider to ride and somewhat better grounded. Notably it takes more effort and leverage to turn. The centre of gravity has shifted back a bit

On the Hadean I ran 92A and 95A bushings, and Riptide pivot cups, and despite these being old and worn, when I swapped these over to the Diablo the ride was substantially better. Getting the right bushing combo will make a massive difference to the feel of this board. Investment here is worth it

The Diablo also feels more rigid than the Hadean. I didn’t really want a firmer ride than what the Hadean offered, and I still don’t. If I can get the board to feel less square with some more tuning it may help

Other Positives

Some other things I’m enjoying about the Diablo are:
Evolve valve caps come as standard
Existing bash guard compatibility
Threaded holes for motor mount plates instead of nuts and bolts to join
More room to adjust belt tension
Extra-long deck screws included
The beefy grip tape
Extra room between belts and tyres will make belts rubbing a thing of the past,
Redesigned motor cable management

Negatives

I had what I thought was a lot of good things to say about the Diablo, but there’s a number of things I’m not overly impressed by, and Evolve should be looking to improve

Y tool is the same
This is a cheap mostly plastic tool, with a sloppy grip on the truck mount nuts especially because of the angles involved, and a crappy way to keep the Allen key in place. It needs rethinking

Waterproofing has not improved
The Diablo Carbon’s chassis and other external components are essentially identical to that of the Hadean. No doubt this is one of the reasons why the Diablo’s RRP is actually cheaper than the Hadean, but one of the downsides of this is the lack of waterproofing. I’ve seen countless pictures and mentions of the underside LEDs glitching and failing. This happened to my own Hadean and has been repaired twice.

The gasket underneath the deck cover does work ok, but water can still get in between the LEDs and other cracks. Running some weather sealant around these cracks helped my Hadean’s LEDs last longer the second time, and it sadly looks like I’ll be doing the same with the Diablo. I don’t ride in the rain or off-road either. Evolve talked up the Diablo Bamboo’s improved waterproofing in their documentary. I hope it does the job for Bamboo owners, but there’s nothing here for Carbon owners

The transition between motor running at higher speeds to coasti...

Hey Jimmy, thanks for the incredibly detailed review and feedback on the Diablo. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience as a long-time rider.

It's great to hear you're enjoying the increased power and top speed capabilities of the Diablo. The ability to fine-tune aspects like acceleration and braking power through custom profiles is definitely a key advantage. Your insights on finding the right balance for smooth braking performance are valuable for us to consider further tuning and adjustments.

We're also glad you're appreciating some of the design improvements like the threaded motor mounts and cable management. Durability and ease of maintenance are always priorities for us.

At the same time, we hear your concerns regarding areas that need improvement, especially when it comes to waterproofing and the remote/app software experience. Protecting the electronics from the elements is crucial, and we'll be looking at ways to enhance weatherproofing for our carbon decks.

The feedback on the remote software is extremely helpful as well. Having more customization options for profiles, the deadman switch, and speed limiting would certainly elevate the user experience. Displaying real-time metrics like current draw could also provide valuable insights. We're committed to continuous innovation, so suggestions like these will help guide our updates and future releases.

While we aim to manufacture boards to the highest standards, occasional hardware issues can still occur. We appreciate your patience as we work to get your motor controller repaired or replaced promptly.

Thanks again for being a loyal part of the Evolve community and for the honest, constructive review. This level of detailed feedback from experienced riders is invaluable for driving improvements across our product line. We're excited to keep pushing the boundaries of electric skateboarding performance and versatility.

Cheers,
The Evolve Team
